Kiva.org is the world's first "person-to-person micro-lending website." The central idea is to use the power of the internet to not only connect people in the developed world to people in impoverished communities but to also lend them money. As they explain on their About Page: "you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan..." Imagine the difference you could make in a far away community with a micro-loan of just $25.
